Me? (T.S. Garp would say I’m pre-disastered.)
I’m a Nixon baby with female parts. I’m also a fabulous air guitarist. A reader once characterized my writing as “Erma Bombeck on jet fuel.” I’ll take that.

My work has been regularly featured in The Dallas Morning News (print and online versions, as well as in its weekly affiliate), spotlighted by The Dallas Voice as well as numerous times within the Alexandria project. I served as co-editor for the largest, print-version Teamster news publication in the southern region of the United States, and my labor-related articles have appeared on an official labor rights website as well as on those operated by both rank-and-file and non-profit groups. In addition, my commentaries in The Dallas Morning News garnered the interest of a local television producer in 2007, which led toward a two-year stint co-hosting a show that aired in five north Texan markets. My animal rescue blog, Six Days at the Fair, is here. Take a gander and get involved.
When not writing, I hang out on airplanes and in museums. I try to keep Mom out of trouble with politicians and folks who text during movies (harder than you think). Cliffhanging, plains-dwelling, river-rafting, punk-rawking, full-clouting, aggro-gardening, pre-disastered: life of mine.
I like you guys. Email me:
Excellent website, Kristan. Hope you’ll visit us at Brown Cafe often!
Over9five
Many thanks and likewise, of course.
Hi Kristan.
Thank you for such wonderful writing and insight into your life. I don’t know you but I have known Lori Draper for over 10 years, so I probably know of you. I stumbled on your site through facebook. When I opened predisastered for the first time, I spent the rest of the day reading, instead of working. I cried over your beautiful account of losing your dog. I come back often and always enjoy every new addition. So again, thank you.
How kind of you, Christina. Your feedback is demonstrative of what I like most about blogging — sharing common, binding threads and sparking emotion within an unknown audience.
I wrote about Hydrox the second I got home from the vet. Glad I did because it made for pretty honest word vomiting. Many days I still cringe over how much pain the poor guy endured. I recently found a tear sheet of a section of that story, read it again, and realized he’d really had a very good life. Cheap therapy, writing. Good for the soul.
And Lori . . . that stinker. Heh.
Nice to meet you.
pretty concise… good job!
Very good entry. I thank you for posting that. I ask you accept my apology for my less good English Skills, I am from Pakistan and English is kind of new to me.
Found your site while looking at pictures of the Westboro Baptist protest in Dallas, but I just spent an hour or more reading most of what you have written. Kristan, you are a gifted writer in many ways. When I read Christina’s comment I agreed. The Hydrox story is so sad and something I can relate to. I also love Neil Degrass Tyson and liked what you had to write about him. The part where he talked to the kid got me. I am so glad I found you here.
Oh and the trophy entry was a favorite. That was smooth of him. I thank you.
Glad I found this keep up the good work
My spouse and I arrived here because this post has been tweeted by a girl I had been following and i am very I made it here.

I understand this is actually boring and you’re simply skipping to another comment, but I simply desired to throw you a big thanks – you fixed the main things personally!
